mpfl1MPFL Reconstruction

In some cases following patellar dislocation it is necessary to reconstruct the ligament that provides a restraint to outward movement of the kneecap, the medial patellofemoral ligament. This is reconstructed using a hamstring tendon and is performed through 3 small incisions. If there is an underlying deformity as the cause of the dislocation the procedure is often combined with a tibial tubercle osteotomy or a trochleoplasty.
